Mediaeval Christmas Market in Neu-Ulm
1st – 22nd December 2023
Jesters are part and parcel of the experience, as are crackling wood fires, mead, bow-and-arrow experts and delicacies from the griddle – after all, the Medieval Christmas Market in Neu-Ulm wants to imitate its role models as closely as possible.
Again and again in the Advent season, the colourful band of stallholders opens up the stands in front of the Neu-Ulm town hall and on Johannesplatz. The aromatic scents then waft into the inner-city air, and soon sweet or spicy treats fill the stomachs of the visitors. When thick layers of clothes can't quite keep out the winter cold and your fingers start to stiffen in the icy air, the braziers are a welcome sight. The culinary offerings will please every palate. Drachenwurst sausage is nowhere more at home than here, and the Flammkuchen stand hints at what pizza was like in the olden days. Beer is also available as a mulled version.
The travelling entertainers and traders don't hold back with performances and demonstrations of all kinds, from juggling and singing to mediaeval craftsmanship. Chapels and choirs from the region don't miss out on the market either and get involved in the colourful hustle and bustle. Children of all ages are delighted by the telling of fairy tales – also one of the fixed items on the programme.
